Rocca al mare, Tallinn, Estonia
The scheme is laid out across the podium to enhance the view across the seascape, with amenity spaces for residents whilst hiding the parking area beneath at street level. Pedestrian access is cleverly positioned to provide a consistent access route through the ‘limestone garden’ to the street below and toward the forest area. The concept and manifestation of ‘erosion’ is brought about the introduction of natural rock and geologic elements within the podium promenade.
A celebration of the power and boldness of large natural rocks feature upon the surface of the earth. Rocks and strata reveal themselves through the paved surface in meditative, sculptural forms, drawing upon the notion of plate tectonics. The front of the scheme is predominately hardscape to enhance the verticality of the architectural towers. To the rear an extensive forest buffer surrounds the development as a soft green backdrop in contrast to the hard promenade.
